However, in this blog post, I’ve come up with 5 powerful tips for using hashtags on Instagram which I know will help you improve your post engagement, because they’ve helped mine.
So let’s begin.
1. Avoid irrelevant hashtags.
Throwing random hashtags like #love, #igers, #photo below your every post might get you few extra likes and even some spam comments. (Congrats!)
But doing so gives you nothing but some irrelevant followers who have nothing to do with you and your company.
Using relevant hashtags makes you visible to other like-minded instagrammers and thus you might reach influencers in your industry.
Relevant tags help you attract new targeted followers who will genuinely partake and engage with your photos and videos.
2. Use hashtags specific to your niche.
Being specific with your hashtags helps you reach other like-minded people on Instagram. For example, you’re sharing the photo of a car then instead of just adding #car to your post, you should use a specific hashtag related to the car manufacturer or product like #fordmustang or #mustang.
By doing so, your shared photo will be added to that highly targeted tag pool, where other mustang lovers will be able to find the photo more easily.
3. Use popular hashtags.
Here, popular hashtags mean the most popular hashtags related to your niche, but it doesn’t mean that you throw any random tags at the end of your post.
For example, if you’re sharing a photo of your car, you can’t use #love or #photooftheday just because these are popular hashtags on Instagram. Instead, you can use #travel, which is a popular hashtag and even related to your niche – because you are sharing pictures of your car and can be shown as travel shot.
Similarly, find the popular hashtags related to your industry whether it is a fashion industry or automobile industry because everything that matters is how you reach your target followers not every random people out there.
4. Use brand hashtag.
Create your own brand hashtag, like I use #rahulogy below my every post. Using brand hashtags has some additional benefits over other hashtags, it gives a unique identity to your posts and all the posts with your brand hashtag can be seen on a single tag page. Even your followers can use your brand tag to share posts with your product and in this way, you can aggregate User-generated contents (UGC).
5. Hide the hashtags.
If you’re going to use more than 3 hashtags for your posts, I would recommend you to hide those tags from your audiences as it may appear nasty and odd to them.
Well, there’s no such feature offered by Instagram till date, but I’ve alternative methods to do so.
There are two methods to hide your hashtag combination:
- You can hide hashtags within your caption. To hide the hashtags, you just need to add at least 3 dots one after another after the caption and before the hashtags. For example, look at the picture below.
By doing so, Instagram will cut all the words after dots and will show caption only. However, hashtags can be seen by tapping on the word “more” which appears at caption end.
- You can add a comment with your hashtags to hide it. Second best option to hide hashtags is by adding a comment with all your selective hashtags. Firstly it will be seen by few commenters but will be hidden after few comments on that post.
In this way, the hashtags are hidden but can be seen by tapping on the “add more” icon above the comment list.
